Barry Jacks to Lead Pinecrest Elementary School as Interim Principal
Barry Jacks has been named as Interim Principal at Pinecrest Elementary School. Jacks had been serving as the school’s interim principal while Tabatha Brewer was out on medical leave. Over the last 27 years, Jacks has served as an Elementary, Middle, and High School Principal in Greenwood School District 50, Abbeville County School District, and Anderson School District 3. Jacks served as the Principal at Mathews Elementary School from 2020-2022. During his two years at the school, Mathews showed significant improvement in student achievement and growth. The school scored an Excellent rating on the SC School Report Card with greater than 90% of their student population being classified as in poverty based on the School Report Card. As a principal, Jacks has a history of improving schools across the state and is excited about his new opportunity in D50.

Tabatha Brewer Named New Principal at Mathews Elementary School
Tabatha Brewer has been named as the new Principal at Mathews Elementary School. Brewer began the school year as the Principal at Pinecrest Elementary prior to going out on medical leave. During her 31 years in Greenwood School District 50, Brewer has worked as an administrator, instructional coach, and teacher. Brewer graduated from Lander University and went on to earn a master’s degree from Southern Wesleyan. She has also obtained a Masters in Educational Leadership from Western Governors School.
“I look forward to my new role at Mathews,” Brewer stated. “I’m blessed to be healthy and ready to serve the students and staff at Mathews. I look forward to building new relationships at the school as we continue the tradition of excellence at the school.”
Debbie Leonard Selected as Interim Director of Instructional Technology
Debbie Leonard has been selected as the Interim Director of Instructional Technology for District 50. Leonard is currently the Principal at Mathews, a position she has held for the last year. Prior to her transition into school administration, Leonard served as an Assistant Principal, Instructional Technology Coach and Elementary School Teacher for 16 years. Leonard obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood and Elementary Education from Appalachian State University, her Master of Education in Instructional Technology from Walden University, and her Educational Leadership Endorsement from Western Governors University.
“This is an exciting career opportunity in District 50,” Leonard stated. “I look forward to working with our District 50 team to develop an instructional technology plan that supports our district’s mission.”
Superintendent Steve Glenn is excited to have three administrators moving into new roles in the district.
“Mr. Jacks, Mrs. Brewer, and Mrs. Leonard will all do a tremendous job as administrators at their respective locations,” Superintendent Glenn stated. “These administrators have been successful in our district and I fully anticipate this to continue for the remainder of the school year.”
